look! i lernt something!
File set up is so important to a printer and a company. The way I've learned to use Illustrator i have taken many short cuts to get the visible effect i want. The first is how i would have normally illustrated something for class.
problems with the first way
1. File size is huge, each vector point is memory. Each individual path is memory.
2. Because there are so many non-visible vector points and paths (when you put something behind another thing) and there are a lot of clipping masks that we can't see normally this makes the printer think harder and increases the risk of it not printing correctly.
(click images to see better detail, which is important)
After

The Paths palette has everything you need to correct these issues and create an illustration that's essentially made of one path even if you built it out of one hundred. (like above)
Before - what a mess.
