more complete sketches

I'm not feeling like I've struck gold or anything but here are some ideas. The one on the top right would have stones in the bottom that are not small enough to come out of the neck when pouring. Then i used clouds to establish a design element that would suggest the stones were on the ground and the type was in the sky.The clouds would be somewhat transparent because when light shines through this bottle the blue and clouds really light up. I really like whimsical wine bottles so I'm trying my hardest just using type.

sketches

what if I translate las rocas (the rocks) to stand for strength rather than literal rocks. maybe. I think this wine is bold and this lable might be dramatic enough to flaunt it's "outstanding" rating and it's bold flavor.

possible wine bottle

I found this at an antique store. It only holds three glasses of wine rather than four but it's an inch taller and a nice thick italian glass.

rough idea-not too crazy about this

sketch

I know this isn't type based but i wanted to get it out. I want to try something clever with type and old drawings of rock/reef charts since my wine's name means the rocks/reef. We'll see.

These sites may help and entertain

Fonts vs. Typefaces (read the comments too). This is a pretty funny due to it's passive aggressiveness.

Any one else?

Not able to upload photos? The photos i took of my wine bottle are from the internet because blogger sends me an upload error message that says "we are currently working on this problem please be patient." It's been a week though.

About my wine:

I hope to impliment some spanish design to the bottle I'm designing. This will give me the chance to check out international design and maybe give me more ideas for other projects.

Wine Bottle Re-Design

Las Rocas De San Alejandro Garnacha is the wine i plan on redesigning. Of the four wines and one olive oil bottle i chose to buy - all of which either has a cheesy, outdated, or overly generic design already, I was most drawn Los Rocas de San Alejandro after research showed it's actually a highly aclaimed wine witha 90 on a scale of 1-100 making it an "outstanding" wine with a far less outstanding design. This design is kind of funny to me. It's the most generic one of any of the bottles i found at the farmers market. By generic i mean two color - just the information you need and not a single element of design except for the type face they chose - which doesn't say anything about the wine at all.

Inspiration for layout and design elements: I bought these at Borders

crochet

i really want to crochet the letters v-o-t-e. and have that be a main image with some copy. I dunno what the phrase would be. I'm more in to design than the actual election right now...eek. I think i should just focus on the fortune cookie for now. Maybe i can add that to my portfolio later if the idea works.

without pattern-explanation

I think layout will come down to which way it reads better. I think it's best to start with the fortune cookie then the copy and the then the "election facts" But more importantly i think the fortune cookie needs to come before the copy. Too bad i think it's more attractive with the copy up top.

I like that it feels kind of dated like an old resteraunt menu.

I saw a lot of posters over the weekend that explore non-traditional layout of obejects. Usually there's a reason that supports the design of course. I like the top left with some adjustment because the election facts are top far left and i think that ads a bit of tension plus reminds me of the wrapper in how that information is just kind of randomly displayed wherever it showed up as the roll of plastic was wrapped around the cookie. Things that make since to me though, rarely translate well. I need to work on that.

These images get a little but messed up when downloaded here. Like around the striped part of the border. working on my 12 inch screen i didn't notice as much how some things are off center. I'll edit that.

What about this?

I used design elements straight from the wrapper of the fortune cookie. I'm really diggin' this finally.

(more simple pattern on this one)

UGH

I'm so frustrated with technology right now i could scream. I've been working in the lab for an hour and tried to save my work and of course everything crashed. I feel like i've had trouble with everything this year.

I still have to clean up the edges and add shadows. I'm putting that fun stuff off till tomorrow though. It's okay. I'd like to try a couple more things with this and some other ideas as well.

ewe wanna know?

Ewe Jokes

I thought i should post proof to offer up a better explanation of why i knew of ewe jokes...an ewe is a female sheep and so in the ninties when lame jokes were cool things like this came out. hehe.

Fortune Cookie Idea

Sorry it's so small. Will be taking my own photo soon.

This feels kind of rediculous.
